The NSW Government has a responsibility to deliver the best outcome for the New Museum –  in our state’s fastest growing and most diverse region, Western Sydney – and wants to ensure it is designed with input from the people of Sydney and beyond.

It’s also important the community is involved in the conversation about the potential for an arts and cultural space in Ultimo that includes consideration of some MAAS presence at the Powerhouse Museum site.

Community consultation is vital at various stages of the MAAS project planning and build to 2022.
Building on past consultation, there will be a range of opportunities for community and stakeholders to engage with the project across Western Sydney and Sydney’s CBD for the duration of the MAAS Project and to provide input into the vision for the New Museum at Parramatta and the future for the Ultimo site.

Stakeholders will be consulted from across education, culture, industry, government and community.

Since April this year the community has been able to register for upcoming consultation events.

Community consulation reached over 500,000 individuals and business through:

  • An online survey
  • Postcards and info sheets about the MAAS Project handed out at pop-up stalls at high traffic locations in Parramatta, Blacktown, Bankstown, Casula, Liverpool, Penrith & Ultimo on week days and weekends.
  • Meetings with key community groups and stakeholders
  • Distribution of brochures, translated into four key languages – Chinese (simplified script), Arabic, Vietnamese and Hindi, and upload to the MAAS project website.
  • Distribution of emails to key stakeholders and the registered database
  • Public meetings – two public meetings were held, one in Parramatta and the other at the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo. Summaries of these meetings can be downloaded below.
